World-Renowned Coach arrives in Malta for Pro Wrestling Seminar

The PWM trainees were in for a treat this past week, with the arrival of world-renowned coach, Michael “Obermacker” Kovac. A master in both American and European wrestling, the 29-year veteran runs the European Wrestling Association alongside Chris “Bambikiller” Raaber. In a 2014 interview with Cagematch, Kovac explained how he founded what now is one of the hottest wrestling promotions in Europe.

“After the CWA closed its doors in 1999, I was left without a main employer, but I didn’t want wrestling to perish in Austria. First, in 2000, I founded the Powerplexx wrestling school in Vienna to continue training talents for this sport. Since the only league in Austria (WWA) that existed at that time was putting on fewer and fewer shows, the time had come in September 2001 and I founded the European Wrestling Association, which was to connect qualitatively to the CWA. Chris The Bambikiller helped with the logo and was involved from the beginning. In June 2002 he became the first champion in a tournament in Ireland, because I saw him as the future of catchsport in Austria.”

The Obermacker lectured the PWM trainees on a number of aspects in Pro Wrestling, from showing them a variety of holds and reversals, different strikes (including how to give a mad European Uppercut), as well as emphasizing the importance of physical fitness in a sport that is “80% Sports, 20% Entertainment”. Kovac also shared some stories about his former trainee, current WWE Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, as well as WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, who wrestled for Kovac’s promotion in Austria in 2017.
